The new sporting director has a background at Rangers and Southampton.
Newcastle United has finalized the appointment of Nottingham Forest's chief football officer as their latest technical director.
The new appointee takes over from the former sporting director, who spent less than a year with the club after taking over from the former executive.
While at Forest, Wilson oversaw multiple record signings, including the big-money signing of the promising player from Ipswich Town in the off-season.
Previously, he worked as the director at Rangers and held a director role at Southampton.
He remarked, "This club is a remarkable institution, and I appreciate the passion, ambition and expectations of our amazing fans."
"I've been in regular contact with [manager] Eddie Howe, and the trust, cohesion and alignment we're building already is promising, and we are confident that acting as a cohesive unit is crucial as we progress the club."
Director to Chart Long-Term Course.
Howe was early in an end-of-season break when his phone lit up during the summer break.
Sporting director Paul Mitchell had just announced that he had decided to exit.
Even with early strains between the duo, the manager was aware that such a figure shields the coach from many issues.
This explains, the hiring of Wilson is a major move for the Magpies.
Without speeding into the hire – although it was necessary for a technical director during a busy signing window – the Magpies have been keen to recruit the right person.
Through hiring Wilson, who enjoys a solid bond with Eddie Howe, they think they have secured the best fit.
The responsibility will lie with Wilson to assist in designing the future plans of the organization.
In the wake of an era of front-office turmoil, Newcastle will hope that Wilson will remain in the role for a sustained period to achieve the goals.
