House of worship Assailant Had Been Freed Under Bond After Rape Detainment, Law enforcement State
As stated by law enforcement, the suspect had been taken into custody under investigation of rape and was out on police bail when he perpetrated a lethal knife and car attack targeting a Greater Manchester Jewish temple.
One victim and Melvin Cravitz were killed in the attack on Thursday, and three people remain receiving medical care.
Investigators believe that Al-Shamie may have been influenced by "extreme Islamist ideology" and announced that additional suspects, aged from late teens to mid-forties, had been arrested on suspicion of planning and enabling of acts of terrorism.
Tributes Paid to Deceased
The following day, families of the victims paid tribute to their family members, praising them as heroes who lost their lives saving others.
Mr Daulby, 53 and the 66-year-old victim died in the attack after the attacker used a vehicle against bystanders before stabbing people that morning.
Greater Manchester Police said Mr Daulby was hit by officers' bullets as they shot the attacker shortly after the incident was reported.
Relatives Comments
Mr Daulby's family stated he "lost his life in the act of courage to protect people" and his final act "was one of profound courage and he will always be honored".
Mr Cravitz, a local resident, was working as a security guard at the synagogue.
In tribute, his family expressed: "He had been so kind, considerate and constantly tried to chat and build relationships.
"He remained devoted to his wife, relatives and enjoyed his meals. He will be deeply mourned by his wife, loved ones, companions and neighborhood."
Investigation Launched into Police Actions
An independent police watchdog said it would investigate the employment of deadly weapons by armed police responding to the incident, which happened on Yom Kippur, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish calendar.
Officers with firearms inadvertently killed Mr Daulby, while congregant Yoni Finlay was also shot by officers leaving him serious injuries.
The investigation will focus on the "circumstances surrounding the fatal police shooting of the attacker", as well as "if police may have contributed to or been involved in the demise of the individual later discovered with the lethal bullet injury".
Attack Particulars Disclosed
Counter terror police also provided more information about the sequence of events in the period leading to the assault at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue.
In a statement released to the media on Friday, a senior officer stated: "According to reports from eyewitness statements that a individual was seen acting suspiciously near the synagogue prior to he was confronted by protection staff and left the area".
During that moment, the situation had not been communicated to police. A short time after, "the individual came back in a vehicle and initiated his violent assault," the official continued.
Police are seeking warrants to further detain all individuals currently detained, he also said. Earlier, Greater Manchester Police confirmed additional persons - two men in their 30s and a female in her sixties - had been arrested under suspicion of involvement and planning of terror-related activities.
Firsthand Reports
Rabbi Daniel Walker was conducting services when his synagogue was assaulted and described seeing "malice and hostility" as a man began "body-charging the doors, hurling heavy plant pots, attempting everything possible to gain entry".
Commending the rapid response of congregation members, he informed reporters: "I witnessed true bravery, I have to say, and people who ran to help fellow worshippers rather than fleeing. It was astonishing."
Alan Levy, the synagogue's head official told journalists, he overheard the attacker yelling "this is what they get for harming innocent youth", prior to "banging his knife into the windows, trying to get through".
